One of my favourite treats happens to come out of Ladurée in France. The macaroon is the most colourful, fragrant and tasty thing to come out of Paris and it is a speciality that not every chef can master. The perfect macaron is crisp on the outside and smooth and soft in the centre. Ladurée says the variety of colours is as important as the range of flavours (which are vast) and are a vital part of their appeal. With each new season, Ladurée pays tribute to its most famous creation by creating a new flavour. At the moment they have a Strawberry Candy Flavour. The macaron is an important part in any aspiring Marie Antoinettes life. In fact Sophia Coppolla even based the wardrobe from the movie on Ladurée macaron colours.
Go look at the lovely Ladurée website, which is full of cute animations. Its looks like the inside of a lovely cake store and you can read all about the history of the macaron and see the stunning cake stores that are part of the Ladurée family.
Did you know Ladurée has been known for their macarons for over 150 years and the Mc Cafes in Paris serve macarons as part of the menu. A complete part of French culture and history.

If you haven't tried one here in South Africa they are available at Cassis Bakery or if you are feeling adventurous try to make your own. My lovely friend Jess has a recipe for you on her blog My Tastebuddies
If you haven't tried a macaron you haven't lived :)
